Spaying & Neutering
Your pet deserves the best care you can give, and at the top of the “best list” is to have him or her neutered or spayed.
Spaying and neutering helps pets live longer, healthier lives and offers many benefits to pets. There are many medical and behavioral benefits to spaying (female pets) and neutering (male pets) your animals. It eliminates or diminishes numerous health problems and undesirable behavior while preventing pet over-population. Spaying and neutering prevent unwanted litters, help protect against some serious health problems, and may reduce many of the behavioral problems associated with the mating instinct.
Spaying helps prevent uterine infections and breast tumors, which are malignant or cancerous in about 50 percent of dogs and 90 percent of cats. Intact female cats and dogs have a greater chance of developing pyometra (a potentially fatal uterine infection) and uterine, mammary gland and other cancers of the reproductive system.
Neutering provides major health benefits for your male. Neutering male pets eliminates their risk of testicular cancer and results in lower rates of prostate cancer. Many aggression problems can be avoided by early neutering.
Spaying and neutering helps fight pet overpopulation. Every year, millions of cats and dogs of all ages and breeds are euthanized or suffer as strays. These high numbers are the result of unplanned litters that could have been prevented by spaying or neutering. Spaying/neutering your pets is also highly cost-effective. The cost of your pet's spay/neuter surgery is far less than the cost of having and caring for a litter.
Your pet deserves the best care you can give, and at the top of the “best list” is to have him or her neutered or spayed. Talk to your veterinarian to determine the best time to spay or neuter your pet.
